God is Doing Something New!

I must confess I like the old ways we did things.

I miss hugs and handshakes. I miss seeing smiles on faces. I miss meeting in person. I want to go back to the way we used to do things.

This new season of engaging college students with the Gospel is difficult: there is no sugarcoating it. God has just wired some of us to mix it up with people and not sit behind a computer screen. However, after several meetings in August and September with the powers that be on the college campus, we quickly realized that there is a new normal.

This reality deflated me at first. I began to wonder, how can I use the gifts God has given me of engaging students? How are we going to meet incoming freshmen?

Fortunately, God speaks to these questions and so much more. Isaiah 43:19 tells us, "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!  Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” I know this was written to the captives in Babylon about their pending freedom. I am not sure how this applies to your life context, but for me it brings me hope that God is sovereign over all things. He knows and has plans to set the captives free; or in my case, students free from sin and death.

Here are a couple of things you can pray specifically for me and our college ministry.

  • One of my former students, a university football player, took his life a couple of weeks ago. I am giving the eulogy at the memorial service on campus. Please ask God for the words of comfort and encouragement that this student body needs to hear.

  • We just started campus ministry at MCCC this week. There are lots of restrictions and changes, but we had a great first week. Please pray that our virtual club fair goes well and that we are able to engage new students to join our Christian club and get involved.

  • Please pray for our ministry with the Delaware Valley University football team. We are not sure how this is going to look this semester, but we are hoping to continue football chapels and start a new weekly bible study.

  • As always, we are in need of monthly support. We are looking to raise an additional $400 per month to cover costs. Would you ask your church missions committee to consider partnering with us? Also, please consider inviting me to speak at a small group bible study or Sunday school class to share the vision of college campus missions.

I am thanking God for your prayers and support today and this week. Have a great weekend!
