Every year Sight & Sound Theatre generously donates tickets to our Montgomery County community college ministry. We always make the same announcement that this opportunity is for outsiders, students who have never heard the Gospel, theatre and drama students, internationals, and so on. I try to first host a table in the college hall lobby with the information, first to outsiders before we get sign-ups in our Christian group. This year, like many others, we had just enough tickets for our club, a happy mix of believers and yet-to-become believers. Thankfully the college provides transportation and our amazing family of supporters (you) supply dinner for the group.
The Moses show was incredible. It is such a well-done production that we always walk away saying this was the best show they have ever done. I really enjoy Moses because I really see the Middle Eastern culture and I can totally relate to Moses' character wandering multiple times in the desert. The icing on the cake is my connection to the cast because a lot of them went to Lancaster Bible College, my alma mater. With that, I try and get an actor or two to come out, meet our group, and do a Q&A. This year we met the actors who play Moses and the Egyptian that Moses kills. Thankfully we didn't have any post-show incidents, they are close friends.
Our goal for this trip is to have students be reinforced in their faith and beliefs or introduced to faith and belief in Jesus for the first time. It was almost as if God teed up the first question during our Q&A. The question was, "Have you ever considered making non-religious shows because you would make much more money?" The actor that played Moses jumped right up and said yes that is probably true but our goal here at Sight and Sound isn't about making money but sharing the Gospel of Jesus. He then went on to talk about his faith and how important God is in his life.
I love watching God love on these students, sharing the spotlight for a moment but taking center stage with the story of Jesus. I John 4:9-12 tells us, "This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." Lots of great Gospel conversations were had on the way home on that bus. To God be the Glory!
Special thanks to Sight & Sound for their generosity & gift of tickets, the stage manager, and the actors who selflessly gave up their time to come talk to our group. Please be in prayer for the two students I talked to after the show about their faith (Scott and Mike).
Thanks for your prayers, generosity, and support!
