I often get asked, "What are you teaching or discussing this semester? Do you write your own material or use a curriculum?"
We go through a variety of bible studies, book clubs, and groups, some of which I write. Sometimes, we use bible study material, although not much is directly geared towards college students. Each of our group models has a different feel and vibe.
In small groups, we try to teach through a book of the Bible: this semester we are doing a twelve-week study of James. Our book clubs are mostly student-led: they choose the book and read through it together. Currently, our students are going through Bob Goff’s book, “Everybody Always." We were able to buy everyone interested a copy of the book, so this made our easy decision. The Del Val Football Chapels for players and coaches are doing a character study using different texts. Lastly, at our “Big Group,” we usually have a timely discussion directly corresponding with what the students are going through. This semester we are doing a series on relationships and connections, looking at friendships from the Bible. In a time when we are so disconnected, the students loved the idea of making connections.
There you have it, in case you were wondering about how our groups are run! If you ever need bible study material, please let us know.
Thanks for your prayers and support! Please keep praying for our local colleges & universities. Keep praying that God brings more students to our groups. Also, keep my family in your prayers: we have two college students of our own and Jackson is starting Fall of 2021! Fun times!
