Summer’s First Bonfire

Just a few weeks ago we were saying tearful goodbyes and congratulations to all the graduates. This week we hosted our first summer bonfire at my house. It was a cool night with a warm campfire. Of course, there was lots of roasting hot dogs and s’mores. The best part is that we were expecting only Montgomery County College students but students from Del Val University, West Chester, and Chestnut Hill College showed up as well. It is a great sign that our little network of local colleges in Greater Philadelphia is working. These friendships have continued since our Alternative Spring Break Trip back in March where we partnered with MCCC & Del Val U.
The night was spent sharing highlights of the school year, rejoicing in what God had done on our campuses, and then we heard expectations for this summer and how we were going to be intentional with our time to share the love of Jesus. Of course, in typical fashion, I said the night would go until 10:30 pm and not one student left until 11:30 pm, except for a few that hung in there until 12:30 or 1 am…not sure because I was so tired. As our world mourns and weeps due to yet another school shooting at the hands of an 18-year-old, we need to pray all the more and seek to encourage/influence the 18-year-olds in front of us. We can make a difference one person at a time.
I am praying that God uses you every day to share the love of Jesus and that God uses you this summer to make a difference. Thanks so much for your prayers and support of mission work on the local college campus. Oh btw - we had a young international student show up to our bonfire. She was not a Christian but really loved the group. Please pray that Mia returns and we get another opportunity to share Jesus with her.
