Being a football Chaplain is about sharing Jesus with the coaches and the team. It is a blessing to be able to walk side by side with these athletes and interject God’s word into their daily lives. I also love the game of football. I love standing on the sidelines and cheering for the players by name.
At Del Val University, I was only able to hold Zoom bible studies all year. I shared the book of James chapter by chapter, verse by verse. I had never met most of the guys that attended in person. At the end of the semester, the team was allowed to have one inter squad scrimmage which I was able to attend. I introduced myself to players that I had been shepherding all year. It was an amazing day, lots of firm handshakes and hugs. God used Zoom for His gospel truth and transformational power to be shared. The additional bonus was that the head coach was able to attend each week.
At the end of the game - I snapped this photo like a proud father. This team went through lots of battles this season but the game was finally played. Just being there was enough for me. However, at the end of the coach's wrap-up the season speech, he turned and said now Pastor Brady would like to say a few words.
The problem was I had no idea and no words to share. Of course, I prayed a quick Hail Mary (pun intended) and the Holy Spirit gave me the words to say and then prayer for the team as they went their separate ways for the summer. Afterwards, Coach Duke gave me some free Del Val Football gear and said he was looking forward to me speaking to the team after every game like that and saying a prayer! So after a long season on Zoom, it was great to wrap up the season with this team.
You and your support puts me on the Del Val football field and allows me to impact players thru evangelism and discipleship. I am so glad you are partnering with missionaries like me to reach college campuses with the love of Jesus. Please tell your friends and church members that they are needed as well (I would love to come share the stories with them). There are 20 million college students that are drowning today in this culture of hopelessness. Only Jesus fills the void with hope, joy, peace, and everlasting love.
